Crescent Moon Bracelet with Shell or Coral
An elegant nod to Indonesia’s rich history of distinctive Islamic art, this elegant bracelet features four crescent moons framing a square panel all, inlaid with shells or coral. This elegant motif can be seen particularly in architecture across Indonesia. Held by a strong, yet elegant foxtail styled chain.
Corals have been used all over the world in jewelry making for centuries for over 4,000 years. Indonesia's red and black corals have long been some of the most prized. Often said to offer protection against evil, these wonderful stones are, however, in crisis. Decades of illegal and excess harvesting along with climate change have damaged most of the world's coral reefs. We only use corals sourced from traditional fishing communities who work to preserve Indonesia’s marine biodiversity for future generations.
Paua or abalone is a family of molluscs that live in almost every ocean on earth. While there are many types, a small handful are prized for food, pearls or as in our case their wonderfully iridescent shells. Abalone has suffered globally from overfishing, poaching and pollution. We source our shells from traditional fishing communities who work to preserve Indonesia’s marine biodiversity for future generations.
Mother of pearl is simply the inside of the shell of certain types of oyster. Its delicate iridescence has been used in all manner of crafts for thousands of years. Often called “the queen of gems”, mother of pearl is said to reduce stress and attract good fortune. Our shells are sourced from Indonesian oyster farms.
